The Outlier Program, now known as the “Exceptionals” provides intense academic and psychosocial support to over 100 students from over 25 outlying rural schools in the Vhembe district.
Students are funded to come to Ridgeway College on Saturdays and school holidays, where they are taught by highly qualified teachers, have access to science and computer laboratories, textbooks, sports facilities as well as a wide range of activities and experiences designed to extend cultural, social and personal horizons.
Students who reach the interview stage of the selection programme, but do not make it onto the full Residential scholarship program, are selected as “Exceptionals” (Outliers)
These students are funded to come to Ridgeway College on Saturdays and during school holidays where they have access to highly qualified teachers, science laboratories, computer laboratories, a small library and sports facilities.
Sumbandila provides meals, stationary, textbooks, transport costs and counselling wherever possible.
During holiday school accommodation is also provided.
Intense academic support is given by highly qualified teachers in Mathematics, English, Accountancy, Computer literacy and Biology.
In their final year all Exceptionals, and Residential students, are given career guidance and assisted in applying for universities, tertiary institutions and bursaries throughout South Africa. All application costs are covered by Sumbandila.
